One county, walked end to end without a loading screen. Not endless — knowable. Small enough that in a week you will know whose field is whose, and which lane the goblins hold.

Chapter one

Levels you can feel yourself earning

Five skills, on the steep old curve. Nothing is bought, nothing is skipped, and level ten means something because level nine took an afternoon. There is no combat style to choose — swing at things and the whole arm improves.

Your pack, your gear, your stats and your journal are one tap away — and one click is always the whole instruction.

Character sheet what raises it
I Attack landing a blow
II Strength landing a hard one
III Defence taking one
IV Hitpoints every fight you survive
V Woodcutting an axe and a trunk

Hitpoints come back by standing about, so a bad fight costs you time as well as pride.

Chapter two

People here want things fetching

Quests are written down in your own hand, in your own journal, and they begin because somebody in the world is worried — not because a marker appeared over their head.

Stolen Stock

50 coins

“Wilfred is pacing outside the general store, muttering about thieves. He might tell me about it if I ask.”

A crate of his logs went in the night, and he is certain the goblins camped in the woods have it. He is probably right. Bring it back and come once more for what he owes you.

A first afternoon

Down the Deeps

250 coins

“Ashfell's foreman is standing in the yard with her arms folded, looking at the adit rather than at her ledger.”

Jarrow Colley went down to the deep gallery three days ago and has not come back up. The west level is fallen in, so the way round is the high level — and a pickaxe would be worth having.

A mile of cave, and a climb

Chapter three

Everything here can kill you, in order

Two rolls settle a blow: whether it lands, and how hard. Your levels and whatever is in your hand are the whole of the argument. Die and you drop what you were carrying — so the county teaches you caution rather than telling you about it.

The chickens

In the farmyard, minding nobody. A fair first fight, and nobody will ever know.

The goblins

Camped in the woods, holding the farm lanes, and they charge anybody who walks down one.

The dragon

Eight levels above the river, one way up. It is not a scaled-up goblin, and it will not be your first fight.

The farmstead, south of the bridge — twenty-eight fields, and lanes worth watching

The gates are open

Your adventure starts
in the village square.

Name your hero, pick your look, and you're in. Your hero and everything they've earned will be waiting the next time you come back.
